My first coop...

Hey everyone how you doing. Im new to raising chickens but we had some when i was younger. This was my first time building a coop. Its not finished yet and i know i should not have used osb, but this is a temporary coop for 6months. It stands 6feet tall with the coop being 4x4x4.1

Your coop looks good. I do have one suggestion though. Change out your chicken wire for hardware cloth/mesh. The chicken wire is pretty easy for predators to break through. Other than that it's very nice first coop.

How many chickens are you keeping in it?

Just 3 hens and 1 rooster. Going to have an 8' run. Will also be letting them free range so they will have plenty of room during the day.

Why does it have to be a temporary coop? If you paint the inside with an outdoor paint it will be waterproof and should be o.k. especially if you put a sheet of linoleum on the floor. Do you want more chickens? Is it too cold in the winter for a coop with no insulation?

Its a temporay coop because we are moving in 6 months. Going to buy some land. When we move i plan on getting about 20 chickens along with other animals. The coop i will leave here along with my raised vegetable beds and my little aquaponics setup. Figure who ever moves in here will be set to have a little homested. Winters here are not cold at all. I live in deep south texas right along the border.

I am doing a temporary coop too. I think it a good idea, you do a medium/small coop as the chicks grow. Then when you do the permanent one you have experience gained, and this can leave you a separate coop in case of illness, damage to the main coop, some other need for segregation.

Cool! Hope your happy on your new land. Will you bring your older girls with you when you move? What other animals will you get?

Yes i will be bringing the girls with me. I also plan on getting some meat and dairy goats, couple of turkeys, pigs, and rabbits. Eventually will also get some cattle
