my first duck lockdown... pics added first post

I've got 8 pips, but that's it, its been over 24 hours and no further progress on the first one....worry worry worry

Don't worry...seriously...think of the size of that yolk they have to absorb...will take a while...

As for no pips, don't worry either, lol...any rocking or are they in cartons? What breed are they? With my pekin eggs they are so translucent I can see through the airsac with a flashlight shone from outside the incubator - you could try that and see if the air sac is no longer distinct so you know they've pipped internally...but no opening that lid!!!!

any babies yet???

woke up to one duck out this morning

a few more are showing some progress finally. The very first pip does not appear to have progressed at all so i'm still a little worried about that one.

I can't tell!!! I had to open the door briefly to add hot water but the temp only dropped 1/2 a degree and the humidity didn't drop but 4 % and recovered immediately. I can't tell if they are moving or not. I've never done this.....man, am I nervous......if nothing happens today, what should I do?

lori, yesterday I was seen holding my head next to the incubator listening for any noise at all.. a peck a peep.. anything. I could hear faint peeping. Maybe if you hold your ear right next to yours you might hear something that will give you reassurance.

I candled on day 25 and saw actual movement in the eggs. I would wait until at least day 30 if I were you.

I have 2 out now.

Any progress Lori?

Mine are going gang busters now. 9 out and the remaing 4 have at least pipped. I started the hatch with 15, had two quitters and 13 made it to lock down. Don't want to jinx it, but if everyone that has pipped hatches that's a pretty darn good hatch for shipped eggs.

they are so much bigger than chicks at hatch. I'm surprised they could fit in the eggs they came out of.

still four pips in the incubator, I did a snatch and grab and moved all of the others to the incubator. I noticed that one had a large yolk sac still attached. On further inspection the poor little thing had a herniated umbilicus and there were some intestines protruding. I decided to spare it further suffering. The rest appear to be doing well.

Still hoping the other 4 pips hatch ok.

Nope, I can't hear anything for the dang fan. I got up this morning and the top of my incubator had cracked and the temp was down to 93.....It's made out of wood and I think the humidity just warped it.....we'll add insulation for the next try. I may sneak one out and candle it to see what's going on. I'm so disappointed. On the upside I think I have a broody light brahma hen that is sitting on a dozen duck eggs for me!
