My first duck

When I was a 4-H'er, a friend "won" a baby duck in a carnival game at the State Fair. She lived in the city, so she gave me the duckling. Grew to be a beautiful Pekin. Being an 'only duck', we were her flock. She followed us around and came in the house when she could find a way in.
I entered her in the County Fair, and won First Place for Pekin Drake. I quietly removed the egg from the exhibit cage early the next morning, (her first egg.) Never said a word, and the judges never knew. (Some judges, eh?)

My first duck was a Pekin Drake, named Pete, he won 1st place at the fair and then went on to win "Grand Champion," now due to him being the only duck, he ended up get his feathers plucked, and beak torn to crap....because he had no social skills when it came to other birds. So much for my show duck

He now resides with an older family friend and I have been told the news that he is living the life.....he's an indoor duck and loves watching the soaps some duck he turned out to be
