My first ducklings are on their way! =D **pics**

Water management... Got it. Still trying to figure out how I'm gonna do that.
One specific question I had, I know they need to wash their heads, so would just a plastic chick waterer work, or do they need something deeper. I know it can't be too deep or they might drown.

I have time release niacin. That won't work though, will it? What if I opened a capsule and sprinkled the little niacin beads over their food? I should probably just get some other form of niacin, huh?

I got a giant tote today to make into a brooder, for plenty of growing room. :) I duckling sat for a friend for a few days and just over the few days I had them they grew like weeds!

No worries on the bathtime! I've been planning out where I'm gonna let them swim as they get bigger. When their really little they'll swim in the kitchen sink, but I don't think my mom will tolerate that for long.

Their big duck pool with be brooding meaties and layers for a while, so they'll have to wait for that.

For the first bit i did use chick waterers but be aware they outgrow those fast! I cannot help with the niacin as i have never done that, i raised my first ducks on duck starter and then later ducks have been fed the flock raiser. The kitchen sink!

yeah, that could work.. so would a baby bathtub or rubber pans.

I like this thingy.. made of rubber and great for starters. Mind you as they get older they will still squeeze in too lol

I got them!! The PO called at 6 this morning and we picked them up ASAP. We were butchering roosters all day, so I'm just now getting to posting pics. They are SO sweet!

The Khaki is very bossy and likes to rule over the Magpie. The Magpie is much more of a follower. She is more laid back and cuddly. They don't have names yet, but there's still plenty of time for that.

Whatcha got? Can I eat it?

The Khaki took a while to warm up to the whole "swimming" idea. She did ultimately swim some, but not as much as the Magpie.

The Magpie LOVES water. She dove and played and chased around little pieces of bread. (Yes, yes. I know. Bread is not good for them. I only gave them a couple tiny pieces to play with. I don't intend to make it a staple part of their diet or anything.)

I'm absolutely in LOVE with them! I keep walking over the the brooder just to coo at them. I'm trying not to hold them too much. I know it's been a stressful day. Tomorrow they will be subject to all my cuddling and oohing and awing, though.

Thanks! I absolutely adore them! I was pretty impressed with the magpie's markings. They aren't show quality or anything, but for an Ideal hatchery magpie she's got some good ones!
