My first egg collected!!

Its my first time ever raising chickens so I'm super stoked to find my first egg. Heard my 18week old jersey giant making a ruckus this morning and was hoping it was the egg song I've heard about. But now I've gotta deal with was her choice to lay outside the nesting box.

Yes. They have five total but are all choosing to lay in the same box at the moment.

Congrats on the first egg! One of my girls starting laying last week and put her first egg in the nest box, her subsequent eggs on the ground.

And, among my many hens and many nest boxes, it appears that only a few boxes (even though many are identical) are suitable for depositing eggs. It's not unusual to find two girls laying side by side in one box -- while four other nest boxes in the same coop have no occupants. Chickens!

Would placing fake plastic eggs in nest boxes encourage them to lay there?
