Let's see, materials for the henhouse and run, the chickens themselves, the feed, the containers to hold the feed and keep them free of pests, waterers and feeders, materials for Mini Coop (where the 3 little ones reside--we made it out of an old kitchen cabinet we had collecting dust in the garage), vitamins/electrolytes for the chickens when the weather is hot, bedding/shavings and hay, and antibiotics for when the welsummer got sick, all total, we have spent just about $650-700 on everything. These little feathered bottomless pits need to start layin' some eggs and payin' their rent!
We've had them 10 weeks today, and they were completely feathered out and outside when we got them so probably about 6 weeks old, except for the EE who was about a month older than the rest. I figure right now, 4 of the 5 pullets are 16 weeks, 1 is 20 weeks, and the babies are 3 weeks. I'm hoping to get eggs by Labor Day, though I do keep checking the nest boxes and around the yard daily, just in case, cuz ya never know.
