I was really excited when I found my first egg from my quail today, and then, a couple hours later, in the same make-shift nest I found two more eggs!

Can you help identify what type the brown egg came from? I have Coturnix and Bobwhite.

Also, will the quail incubate their own eggs?

All those eggs are Coturnix. I doubt they will sit on the eggs but you never know. If you dont have a plan for the eggs leave them there and see if a hen ever sits on them. Also I would not advise keeping Bobwhite with Coturnix. I know it can be done but they are two seperate breeds.....and I would bet the bobwhite male would kick a coturnix male into tomorrow.

Good Luck with the eggs

I have observed the quail, worried about this very thing. They were incubated and raised together, and, although the Bobwhite like to stick together, I have found them to be in no way abusive towards the Coturnix.

I also think it is strange that these are from the same kind of bird, the eggs that I hatched them from weren't brown like that at all!

That's really interesting. I have never seen a wholly brown cortunix egg. If it were smaller I would have said button! I am pretty sure the bobwhites lay white eggs, so you should know when you get some of those.

I know! I thought that was strange too! I couldn't find any picture online like it. Maybe my birds are gifted

Yall are right, bobwhites lay solid white eggs with no marking.
Some cortunix just have solid eggs every now and then.

It is a fluke that the male B.W. aint killing the others though, good luck with that!

Yep... I've had coturnix eggs that were pure white (almost) like the bobwhites, mint green, and dark brown. Not exactly sure what causes them to do that, though.

Congratulations on your first eggs!

Here's a picture of a bobwhite hatch... see the pure white eggs? They're smaller than the coturnix eggs, too.
