My first ever chick!

This is the brooder where the new chick lives. I haven't put out the mailbox - as I understand it, he/she will be moving outside in but a few weeks....

This is the nest that the new baby sleeps in every night and when he/she takes
naps during the day. She puts herself to bed....aaaahhh!

And that is my homemade brooder.....

On the temperature of the brooder, I think that it needs to be warmer. The first week 95, then 90 the second week and so on until it reaches 70 or so. My girls thought 95 was too hot, and we started at 90 or so that first week. They were all moving away from the heat light. I understand it depends on the chicks though.

Yours is a cutie.

A mirror! I'll do just that. Thats a great idea.

He/she seems to be okay with the temp. He/she isn't chirping loudly or huddling anywhere in the brooder. I worried about the temp for awhile, but thus far the chick appears quite happy. I will raise it a bit though to be exra sure.

Plain yogurt is great for chickens digestive systems! It helps prevent "pasty butt" that can make chicks sick/die. Chicks have terrible immune systems when they are born and yogurt has active cultures in it to help their digestive systems thrive. Your chick is beautiful! Good luck!
