As far as talking to chickens, yup, I do that. And I swear that they answer. Especially one; when I give them treats, I'm sure her little noises mean "thank you."

Mine have very specific facial expressions. The alpha looks alert and is always the first one to come to the door. (She's the one who says "thank you.) One looks... innocent? confused? She's the timid one. The other one has the look of an older woman. Like she's been around awhile, seen a lot. More cautious than alpha, but not as jumpy as the timid one.

They sure make me smile. :)
