Wow, many thanks for the warm welcome and great advise! This feedback really helps.... I think we may want to add several hens based on the valuable feedback.

We would like to let everyone out for a supervised free range period and I am a little concerned about getting all of our birds back in the coop. I have read a short period of time before dusk is a good start as they will head for the coop, as darkness approaches. Also, is it true that can be trained with treats like meal worms to follow when called? We live in a heavily wooded area with much wildlife so we will need to keep a close eye on them and I want to make sure I can get them safely back in their coop.

Meal worms, scratch, bits of bread, whatever you have handy really. Call them and throw the treats. It shouldn't take more than a day or two for them to come running when you call. They should head into their house automatically at dusk, but the treats is a great way to be sure
