Hey Everyone!

It's been a while since I've posted so I figured I would hop on and share my new flock!

They were born May 4th and arrived at home on May 6th! I've just been so obsessed and busy with them I totally forgot to post!

So far, only one has passed away. That was the day after arrival. All the others are happy and healthy!

Here's some photos and videos of the little nuggets as babies and now as (almost) 2 week old chicks!

Very sweet babies! Isn't it interesting how much time is involved in taking care of such little critters? But they grow up so fast, that it's worth spending every possible minute with them while they are still cute little fuzzballs.

Congrats on your new flock!

Hey all. Just an update.

I've been so busy obsessing over these girls and getting their home situated and ready that I've slacked on sharing updates.

Yesterday my girls moved out in to their coop.

(Please no judgment on my mixed flock, I realize what can happen and have a plan if I need to separate the crested ladies.)

I was going to keep them locked up in the coop for the weekend to adjust to their new home, but couldn't wait to sit outside with my chickens and a big cup of tea. So I decided to have a short supervised field trip into the run.

Thanks to lots of research, and a lot of helpful tips from this community, my run is incredibly secure.

I've got PVC coated hardware cloth lining the ground, wrapped up around the outside of the structure, and screwed in with fender washers.

On the inside we screwed on hardware cloth from the floor to the ceiling, and everywhere in between, again with fender washers. Coop windows are all secured with hardware cloth as well.

Every door on the coop and run is secured with a fence latch and carribeaner.

The coop is just a temporary coop. Until lumber prices drop, it's not reasonable to build my dream coop. I'm already 4K in with this one. Lol. Between the coop, the run, the hardware cloth, hardware for building, lumber, paint, and dirt for leveling.

Definitely the most expensive hobby I've ever had, but also the first step in a dream coming to life.

Still some asthetic touches to do, but here's a few shots of the setup:

The run. (Don't mind the mess outside. It's been quite a project. Lol)

We bought this coop used and touched it up. This is the back of the coop. Clean out and access door.

The nest boxes. These will be more secured but for right now they're blocked off on the inside of the coop with plywood to keep the girls out until they're ready for laying.

Got this place really, really, reaaallllly tight.

This right here could use some touching up to make it look better, but that is something I can easily work on. I've also got some treads to put on the ramp today.

Inside the coop.

Anything I've missed or that could use improvement or changes, please share your thoughts!

Looks like you did a great job! The chickens should be happy and safe.

I know what you mean about lumber prices. I built a new coop (for the chicks I totally wasn't going to get this year) and the cost was ridiculous.

Thanks for sharing the photos, and best of luck with your mixed flock!
