I'm looking into breeds now. I really like Lavenders. I've only really seen Americaunas and Orpingtons though lol. What are some other breeds that look good in lavender? Are there any others?

Because "lavender" is a specific genetic mutation (the lav gene) rather than a single breed, it has been selectively bred into various popular chicken breeds.

Most Popular Lavender Breeds
  1. Lavender Orpington: The most famous variety, known for being exceptionally fluffy, docile, and "lap-chicken" friendly.
  2. Lavender Ameraucana: Prized for the striking contrast between its pale lavender feathers and the blue eggs it lays.
  3. Lavender Silkie: A highly ornamental bantam breed with fur-like feathers, blue earlobes, and a "purple rinse" look.
  4. Lavender Cochin: Extremely round and fluffy with heavily feathered legs, often kept for exhibition.
  5. Lavender Marans: A newer variety that combines the lavender color with the ability to lay dark, chocolate-brown eggs.
  6. Lavender Sussex: A dual-purpose breed known for being a strong forager with an attractive soft gray appearance.

Rare or Specialized Lavender Varieties
  • Belgian Bearded d'Uccle: Specifically the "Porcelain" variety, which was where the lavender gene was first discovered in 1972.
  • Lavender Wyandotte: Features the classic Wyandotte shape but with uniform silvery-lilac plumage; primarily found in the UK.
  • Lavender Australorp: A sweet-natured breed similar to the Orpington but with a slightly different body type.
  • Lavender Leghorn: A more active, productive layer with a sleek lavender coat.
  • Lavender Araucana: Rumpless birds with tufted ears that also lay blue eggs.
  • Old English Game Bantam: A small, spirited ornamental bird available in "self-blue" (lavender).

A Note on Names
In the poultry world, lavender is often officially called "Self-Blue". Unlike standard "Blue" chickens—which can produce black, white (splash), or blue chicks—Self-Blue/Lavender birds breed true, meaning two lavender parents will always produce 100% lavender offspring.

Although, my Lavender bantam is more blue, like this:

I didn't realize it was anything beyond a standard morph. It truly is a really beautiful look. I really like the looks of these. Im considering getting a few hens and doing a rooster from one of these morphs. That way should I desire, I could breed pure Lavenders.
