We got these girls from a friend with a farm up the road from us. Apparently her husband bought upwards of 50 chicks during the beginning of quarantine and she wasn’t really on board with that high of a number. She told me to come over and pick out however many I wanted. I got these three and named them Blanche, Dorothy and Rose from the Golden Girls. The chicken I’m holding (Blanche) is the nicest hen I’ve ever met. She likes to be held and comes when I call her name :D

That’s all. I’m more of a duck person, but I have to admit that these three are fun to have around the yard and in the flock. Is she a sapphire gem?

She's beautiful! We've had some hens (mostly bantam OEDs and Black Stars) that have been very friendly, like little puppies. They are a joy, although I also like the ornery and aloof ones as well. Congratulations on your new ladies!

Agreed! I still love our other chickens too (even our mean ol’ Rhode Island Red hen).Thank you!:love

LOL... we lucked out with our RIRs. We've had three and they've all been sweet and in the middle of the pecking order. They are more active and curious than other birds, but nothing like the bullies so many people seem to have.

I've never had any sapphire gems, so others will be able to say what her breed is. But she's a gorgeous bird.

I’m happy for you, because ours is a brat! She was pretty sweet (and middle of the pecking order) until we had a loose dog get our “head hen” a couple months ago. Since then, she has taken over as the alpha chicky and is so mean to the other birds!! Our last RIR we had (she just recently died of old age) was a doll! Soooo, I try and not judge the breed too harshly ;)

Isn't it funny how their personalities change when the pecking order is disrupted? We lost our stern, but benevolent Black Star queen a few months ago and the RIR was great as top bird. But a raccoon killed one of her flock mates and almost killed her and since then I think she's had PTSD. She is really skittish and it's hard to get her out of the coop. We'll see what happens when our three remaining hens meet our twelve new chicks. Hope your introduction with your three new chickens went well!

It is very interesting to see how they establish “order” amongst them! Awhhh, well good luck with the new additions, and congrats!!

Pretty birds. I love the names and the show.
