Started with 21 of my own eggs on 3/21. 16 were Speckled Sussex and 5 were Black Australorp. Rooster is a Rudd Ranger, Hoover's version of the Freedom Ranger, and is huge. Hoping for some good meat chunks for the freezer.

7 SS eggs were duds. Pulled them around day 10.

Lockdown started Thursday afternoon. Friday morning I heard peeping and 2 SS eggs had externally pipped. By evening 8 had externally pipped.

Woke up around midnight to more than just peeping coming from the incubator. Smiled and went back to sleep. Got up at 3:30 and was welcomed by 4 chicks. Number 5 hatched within minutes of me getting up.

Left at 4:30 to pick up my new POL Hyline Brown pullets. Got home around noon and had 12 chicks. The last 2 eggs are externally pipped.

Moved the 8 dry ones to the brooder. Wish it was warmer than 40 degrees in the barn, but with a one room, 625 square foot house, there really isn't a good place to keep chicks inside, especially with 2 dogs. Brooder box is 95 degrees right now, so they should be ok. I can hang another light if I really need to, but the lows should be in the mid 30s the next couple nights. Another light might be too much.

This was my first attempt at hatching eggs. I set aside another 17 eggs from the last 5 days. Might just need to try another batch with those and whatever else I collect by Monday.
