At 6:43 PM CST my first ever egg hatched! These are California valley quail eggs. I got some valley quail from a friend about a month ago. I think based on my very inexperienced candling 5 more of the 14 eggs still in there may hatch, but I'm not sure. Quail eggs are pretty hard to candle.

Yesterday I saw this little guy rocking, I was so excited! Today is day 21. Tonight I was watching TV when my SO went "Did you hear a beep?" We couldn't figure out what it was, then we heard more and it was definitely a cheep not a beep! I got up to check the incubator, and sure enough! He'd cut all around the top and was kicking his little heart out to escape! I am currently calling him Fluffy and assuming he is a he. Sorry for the bad pictures, in the excitement I forgot the flash was on.

congrats. they are soooo tiny

Yea, they make chicken chicks seem like jumbo babies! Still no signs of life from any of the other eggs. Fluffy may be the only guy who comes out today (or at all) but I'm so stoked. My temperature was pretty consistent within about .7 of a degree, but I let the humidity spike down a few times when I got held up at work. Too soon to know if that effected them, it's still day 21 right? :)

Next time I think I'll try to do even more eggs. I'm definitely addicted. I'm starting to wish I built a bigger coop but my yard isn't that large...

Congrats! Addicting is right. My 3 turned into 12 and 12 more eggs in the bator. Lol And this is only quails. Not to mention my chickens and other birds.

I grabbed my camera to photo the green one on the top right and it needed charging, anyway it hatched, and the other top 2 are zipping, and the spotted brown one has a pip.

Grats on your zipps Gimmie! Nothing yet from my other eggs. Trying to reset the urge to remove Fluffy from the incubator until tomorrow. I set up a LARGE brooder (3foot long aquarium with a wire top), and I have just one tiny guy!
