Hey BYC community!

I ended up with a balut duck egg. For those that don't know, balut eggs are basically duck/chicken embryos that are boiled to be eaten while in their shell. So to me I believe it's a miracle that I was able to hatch my pekin duck. Through the process of "googling" what hatching requirements were needed I ended up on BYC multiple times. I am a complete worry wart, so I was looking in case it didnt externally pip or if the air sac was growing too large. So thanks to BYC I became well inform on I thought I join the community to share my story and possibly find someone local to take care of Ducky. I thought someone from BYC would definitely take great care of Ducky. I'll be moving out of state for school and unfortunately won't be able to take Ducky with me :( Originally a family member was suppose to take her/him in, but that fell through.

Anyways! Until I figure out a home for Ducky I'll be here on BYC searching up what else will be needed for this little guy.

This is her/his box when she's/he's on furniture.

:welcome Hope you find a home for your duck, glad you joined us.
Where are you located? Where did you purchase Balut? Was it intentional? Do you know how "old" the egg was? Days it took to incubate?
I'm in SoCal! The Balut was purchased at a local Balut place near where I live. My dad felt like having some Balut for Father's day so they were purchased. Personally I never had the heart to eat them and it's really a once in a year kind of thing when they're purchased in my family. I was in charge of boiling them, I ended up candling them all thinking/hoping that they were already dead. However, one of the egg did have movement so I took that one. It was placed in a makeshift incubator about 36 hours after it was purchased. So for the first night I left it with my dog, she thought it was some kind of treat and likes to guard them dearly as oppose to eating them. Then the next 15 hours or so I kept it wrapped in fleece and kept it near me via a sports bra (read this idea from BYC haha).
