My first Marans hen and I am super dissapointed. :(

This is a dozen eggs from the cuckoos I had. You can also see brown, green and white eggs for comparison. I have FBC and blues in the incubator, now. The eggs are just as dark.

I have three cuckoo's one lays a beautiful terra cota color, the other two as dark as my blue marans...........
Just want to encourage you that it is not the breed...................
Also, I agree if you want really dark, get a Black cooper..mine lays almost chocolate colored eggs...

I had a Cuckoo that laid a darker egg then most BMCs I've seen, so they're not all bad. Sorry you got bamboozled.

I have two cuckoo Marans and I was disappointed I didn't get the dark chocolate brown eggs. Mine lay medium brown eggs with darker spots on them. They are quite a bit darker than your picture though.

I picked up what looks like a BCM for free because of this, she lays nice eggs and only not dark- about RIR 'red' and large in size- but only lays EOD (every other day) and has gone 1/2 broody once... then back to eggs.

Interesting that my Jersey Giants from Bobbi Porto are laying eggs as dark as all of the pics that have been posted.
