Thanks for getting back Dmom, but most all game bird chick starter has a protein level of 30% or more. I have fed this mix as you stated with my Pheasant feed and they have done great on it . I raised them on it from chicks and now at just over 1 year old they are coming into full color which most don't till 2 years od age. I have a Himalayan monal ( Impeyan)
that already has blue in his first years feathers , which they don't even start turning till after the 2nd year. But Ill take your suggestion into consideration and maybe more folks will chime in on this question...
I prefer my chicks get no more than 18-20 % protein, so I feed a regular medicated chick starter not game bird starter. But.... as I said everyone has different things that work for them. The leg issues I get concerned about are twisted tibias, they are pretty rare on pheasants because they are a much lighter weight bird. The heavier bodied the species the more common this is and some feel it is connected to rapid growth and weight gain, therefore slowing growth a bit can be helpful in preventing the problem. IMO.

PS. I love Impeyans, I actually was going to buy some hatching eggs this spring. They were listed on ebay, but the seller was only about 30 miles from me. I contacted him and asked if I could pick them up and he wouldn't let me, he insisted on shipping. Big red flag right there! Probably me being suspicious, but I sell eggs as well and I invite people to come see the parent birds. I have nothing to hide here.
