My first peafowls

Thanks for getting back Dmom, but most all game bird chick starter has a protein level of 30% or more. I have fed this mix as you stated with my Pheasant feed and they have done great on it . I raised them on it from chicks and now at just over 1 year old they are coming into full color which most don't till 2 years od age. I have a Himalayan monal ( Impeyan)

that already has blue in his first years feathers , which they don't even start turning till after the 2nd year. But Ill take your suggestion into consideration and maybe more folks will chime in on this question...

I prefer my chicks get no more than 18-20 % protein, so I feed a regular medicated chick starter not game bird starter. But.... as I said everyone has different things that work for them. The leg issues I get concerned about are twisted tibias, they are pretty rare on pheasants because they are a much lighter weight bird. The heavier bodied the species the more common this is and some feel it is connected to rapid growth and weight gain, therefore slowing growth a bit can be helpful in preventing the problem. IMO.

I have seen this condition first hand in guineas and peas and it can be devastating.

PS. I love Impeyans, I actually was going to buy some hatching eggs this spring. They were listed on ebay, but the seller was only about 30 miles from me. I contacted him and asked if I could pick them up and he wouldn't let me, he insisted on shipping. Big red flag right there! Probably me being suspicious, but I sell eggs as well and I invite people to come see the parent birds. I have nothing to hide here.

I have come to the conclusion today after 30 days in the incubator I took unhatched eggs out and float checked them one sunk ,the other 4 floated at proper height but no wiggle I then took a stethoscope put to the eggs and hear a heart beat. So for educational reasoning I crack one open it had a live bird inside but it stomach area was unfeathered and skin toned and it quickly died there after. I have done some read on this subject of not fully developed chicks and none hatching fully developed chicks, And it appears that folks are selling eggs from young hens 2 years and under Your chances of getting these to hatch are very slim to none. But people are greedy and sell these eggs. Please folks correct if Im wrong Im only learning about Peafowls ...

This is my first year hatching eggs from 2 year old hens and they have been no different than eggs from mature hens.

You did right Dmom, His aviary was probably less than desired and the parents like you said . Anyone in the Bird industries should understand customer pickup being less stressful on the eggs. Ill take that into consideration on the Peafowl feed you make a very valid point ,thank you for sharing....

The Lone Ranger is now 4 days and growing more independent every day. I think that this chick is a male because he hold his wings out fluttering them and putting his head down low as my hand approaches him LOL that's quite comical to watch at this age...I know its too early to tell yet According to Zaz recommendation on sexing.
