My first post!

I've been lurking and reading and learning for yeeeeeeears!

I've got a serious hatching addiction.

I hatched out our first flock about a year and a half ago. Lost 11/12 birds (one lone silkie roo survivor) to a raccoon attack in one night late last winter.

Adopted 2 sizzles and a bantam frizzled polish to keep our survivor (Toby) company while hatching 9 other sizzles. Then hatched 5 more silkies. Adopted a silkie/serama hen and an extra silkie female. Hatched 9 more chicks (3 from the bantam polish and 6 from a silkie hen with a smooth-feathered sizzle daddy who was subsequently re-homed because the other boys weren't being nice to him).

Hatched 45 northern bobwhites which we released (they're native) and most dispersed into the surrounding woods/fields but 5 have decided they are also chickens and spend most nights in the coop or run. LOL

Now I've got about 18 eggs collected from my silkie/serama hen and a frizzled sizzle hen.

G’Day from down under Altfrizzle :frow Welcome!

I am so very sorry to hear of your loss :(

I also hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)
