My first Quail. A mini blog.

Thanks.
I had thought hatching your own produced eggs was pretty much a given. Now I know better.

Sounds like they might have been doing an experimental hatch with different variables that may have reduced viability? No turn doesn't sound like a normal hatch attempt. Everything I've heard seems to indicate that it IS easier to hatch your own eggs (since there's no shipping trauma and you KNOW they're fresh), unless your flock is having fertility issues

Day 16. I guess this guy couldn't wait.

I always look for pipping, but this guy came from an egg in the back and I do not turn the incubator to inspect them all. I set the eggs down, by habit I suppose, pointed end towards the center.
Last I looked was around 11:00 and it's 3:45 now, so he didn't mess around. Moving around pretty good. Not sure if he's a brown or a pearl yet. Or a she ;)

I moved him to the brooder just now. He was dry.
And I'm definitely thinking he's one of the Pearl Coturnix. The yellow and black are much more subdued. Like someone turned down the contrast.

Thoughts are to keep the two colors separate so they breed true. But we all know how plans go...
But if I get enough numbers, that's the plan.

One more is better than none.
Another very freshly hatched one this morning. It's still a little tired from all the work of breaking out. The feet seem good.

Number 1 should have some company later this morning. And hopefully the action will pick up.
