My first Quail. A mini blog.

And I just found a dead one. Not a mark on it. Not one I moved into the brooder today either.

It's a start

Yesterday I saw one of the roos paying a lot of attention to my older female.

One thing that was bothering me, especially as quickly as the chicks go through food, but not wanting to take up more floor space with another small feeder or one larger one, was the inefficiency of filling those typical round base feeders.
There really isn't a way to have a full jar of food and the base also full. Not with having to screw the two pieces together. You know what I'm talking about.

I posted the question in the chicken forum and someone mentioned not having a top in his feeder. It came that way. Today I modified mine and cut the top out.

Now it's a simple matter to pour food in the jar until both the base and the jar are full.
And hopefully with the base always being full that little yellow one will stop climbing inside  But at least I'll notice her by looking in through the open top.

That's her right here. One of the late hatchers that had the curled toes.
