My First Quilt

Great first effort there! I think the important thing with quilting is just to dive in and do it! Quilts are personal and no matter how skilled the seamstress is who puts it together, they will be treasured. I don't claim to be a master quilter by any stretch, but I have fun creating them and finishing them. I don't do anything quickly since I can't machine quilt, but I do plug along okay. And I've finally learned to use a machine to piece them so I can save my fingers for the actual quilting part.

I swore that I would never again give a quilt or quilted item to someone who cannot appreciate the hours and sore fingers I put in. If you give yours to someone special, they'll have a piece of you to keep and treasure forever. I've always sold mine or given them away to family or friends, but I've promised myself I would keep something for me now, so I'm working on several projects. Are you going to keep this one for yourself?

My parents have the quilt I made for my brother 43rd Birthday. 11 days before he died under it from lung cancer. My sisters' evil inlaws kept the quilt I made for my BIL, David. He took it with him everytime he went to dialisis and died under his too. Or the one I made for my parents' 50th Anniversary. It has patches on it signed with messages from friends and family, Some that are no longer here, including a brother and sister of my Moms' and her most beloved "Uncle Johnny"


Your techniques will get better as you learn more. (though I swear I still can't do paper piecing, none of them ever come out the same size!!) You will find techniques you like better than others.

Just remember to have FUN!!

You go girl!!..what a great start!!..hopefully of a loving, rewarding hobbie!!..somewhere down the road if you get the chance to take a quilting class I would encourage you to do so. I do think that with the help of the internet (tutorials) and the help of others you will do fine..you have already shown that you are determined to do it..but the classes can help answer a lot questions...and remember we are all here to help you to!!

I really would like to get better and do the swaps on here but I cant

Now I am working on my 2nd quilt. Fabric was donated by Joan, a BYC member (can't remember screen name, starts with a V)

It's a strippy quilt. Check out "New Year's Eve Quilt" for what it's supposed to look like

Thanks everyone. The colors are off because of the webcam. The middle is yellow if that helps with color skewing. I think a square a day would be fun
