I decided to take in my friend's ROO today. One of her hens went broody and she hatched him from a lone egg. He grew up being loved and doted on, but unfortunately ~ not by by other ROO. So he needed rehoming. It was a tough decision, (we were happy just keeping hens) But I thought since he was such a sweet guy we'd take him in. Here are some pics of him meeting the girls.

I call him Roopenn.

Apparently his paw is a Polish fellow, so looks like he might be getting a few feathers on his head. I think he's been picked on a bit.

My hens don't quite know what to think lol! But if he doesn't get on with them, I'm getting ten pullets shortly, and in a matter of months he'll have friends for sure.

Whaaaaaat is thaaaaaaat?

He's getting close errRRRRRR!

Oh my GAWWWWWWWD!

He is very pretty! You have a beautiful flock as well!

Thank you!

To be perfectly honest, I have NO idea what makes a pretty rooster or hen. But, I think they're happy. And the hens produce jumbo large yummy eggs without fail. He's got some shiny feathers and he is very sweet. I think he's used to being handled. My girls seem to like him already. "He's myyyyyyyyyyyne ..." " No ... he's mawwwwwyyyyyyyyne!" And even Philip, my Rouen, doesn't think he's at all a bad guy. They are separate (the ducks and chooks), but they integrated for a few minutes under my supervision in the coup, and both were very civil.

Would you look at that handsome fella! What a unique comb! I hope my polish cross is at least half as good-looking.

As for what makes a chicken gorgeous, it's all in the eye of the beholder. Some folks like colorful chickens, some folks like white chickens. Some folks like beards, some like 'em clean shaven. I myself am all for variety. I love unique and diverse chickens, and yours sure fits the bill!

Thank you so much! You should see his DAD! WOW! I just saw a picture of him. Big, black and lots a hair!! His tail looks about two feet long! Roopen sure is a nice, sweet fellow. No idea how he got all those radiant feathers!

Like what IS up with the double comb? Is that some kind of over-achievement? Wouldn't it be cool if he grew feathers right up between the combs and he had a mow hawk?!

HAHA!

So here's lil Roopeen as a day old. How cute is that!

And here's his Daddy!

I don't know much about roosters, but he's gotta be pretty handsome!

Today, Roopenn was not calling as much, but definitely showing some signs of bonding with the girls. He followed them around pretty closely (and they didn't seem to mind) and he's soft talking to them. Like yesterday he was more Van Haylen, and today he's all Micheal Buble. Y'know? He's found his pitch I'd say!

"Oo Oh OH it's a beautiful daaaay, and I can't stop myself ..."

"Errrr omygaaawwwwWWWWD ... he sounds like Michael Buble, he's MiiiinnnnNNNEE"
"No he's maaaawwwWWWWWYYYYYNE"
