My first ROO

Today was the first day they went outside. I wanted Roopenn to know where his home is before doing too much venturing. The girls were very happy to walk with him, and show him the good scratching spots. I was calling them into my barn, "cmooooOOOOOOOOOOOnnnnNNN!" so that they could have a luxuriating dust bath in the floor screenings when I opened the door to find that my Appaloosa gelding had let himself out of his stall, and was rearranging my stuff in the barn isle. Apparently, I slept in, and so that's just not ok.

So ... had to change plans, clean up a bit .... They were ok with it, though...

"OhmygaaawwwwwwwwWWWDDD! I can't believe she just shut us out like thaaaaaaaaaAAT! Youcan't trust heeeeeeeeeerrrRRRRR!"

So anyways, Then Belatrix, our 'supposed-to-be-barn-cat-rescue-but-rules-the-house-and-cannot-mouse-to-save-her-life' cat, came out to see the new guy ... That was pretty uneventful, but of course Roopenn didn't know that, so it was an opportunity for bravado for his hens, kinda thing...

Rue was suitably impressed. "omgaaawwwwwWWWWWD ... he so berrrrrrrraaaaaAAAAAVE! he'smyyyyyyyiiiiine!"

" bububhbuhhbbaaaH ....
And in this craaaaazy life, and through these craaaAAAAzy times
It's you, it's you, you make me sing....
You're every line...
you're every word....
you're everything .... ErrerrrooooOOOOOOOO!!!"

Too funny!

Is Roopenn less than a year old? I was just wondering if he will develop any more. I think crested mix breed chickens are so cool. You never quite what they will look like until they are fully developed.

Yes, he is less than a year. His birthday is in August, 28th /2013. I'd imagine he was pretty loved if they remember his birthday!!!!

If his recent vocal development is any indication on how he might develop physically ... we're in for a treat!!!

Maybe I should ... it only gets better :hmm

So, I decided to go check on them, right? I mean it's only been two days, and it's kindof windy out ... so, anyways this is what I found in the chicken coup!
Like, omg ... Roopenn, I don't even know what to say, to you, right now.

I would just like to say to anyone reading this, straight up, I had NO idea this thread would take a restricted turn. Perhaps I will need to put a disclaimer on the top of it.

Lindsay, I am pretty sure you have broken a few social conduct rules, right there. Did you even think of Rue? You know, *Rue* your bestie?......
Do you even have protection?

"Buhbuhhhhbuhhhaaah ... Oh this thing ... budah dahhh .. Called lloooove ..."

Enough Roopenn!!

I figured I'd better go check on Rue because she was nowhere to be seen in this present social crime scene. I didn't know how badly she might be handling it. You know, just this morning Roopenn was all 'protecting her from the cat' and everything ... She looked pretty smitten.

Anyways, it was far worse than I expected. Apparently, she decided to give up being a hen altogether, and join the ducks. HOW SAD!

It's ok, I'll take her inside tonight for a spa treatment. We'll have a talk.

I guess I should have expected drama, right, bringing a boy into the mix. I suppose I'm gonna need a sock for the chicken coup door.

Having a rooster around does add a bit of drama to the farm yard.

Prince charming, Buble- Roopenn probably doesn't see a problem with romancing more than one hen. After all his daddy made the rounds in the old barn yard and that resulted in Roopenn's mystery mix. But your hens probably don't know quite what to expect with a rooster around. Soon he will be doing his rooster dance around each of them in succession.

I must admit I am fascinated by Roopen and his double comb as well. I guess his comb is a cross of the Polish V comb with the single comb. I searched "double comb" and "butterfly comb" and found this photo of a Polish mix.

He does have a crown, now that I think of it ... p'raps he IS a Prince?

Thanks for the feedback. I think he's pretty, but I've really only every known one rooster ~ him! LOL

My husband didn't want a rooster AT ALL. He didn't want the eggs fertilized and blah blah blah ... 'he's gonna attract coyotes ...'

So now he's all bonding with Roopenn because now he's a star, right? Roopenn's the man, the boss!! It's only a matter of time until hubby builds a roost in the man cave for him, so they can share a pint while he's fixing cars...
