Went out today after work and bought my first set of chicks. Americauna (easter eggers).

Ran into a small problem early on but took care of it and now I will have keep an eye on them.

They had a bit of "Muck Butt" or "Poopy Butt" but a little bit of warm water and getting in and getting my hands dirty...(My wife's hands because she has the long finger nails, but don't tell her im going to take credit for it. haha j.k)

The 6 little gals are doing good. They said they are all hens at the local feed store but I have a hunch that the Yellow one in the center is a Ro.

After reading on here about everyone's success with sand that's the route we decided to take and the chicks love it. They are now in a Temporary Brooder (Cardboard box).

Can't wait to hear what you have to say.

Yeah! Welcome to the craziness of chickens (and watch out for chicken math!) I have over a dozen different breeds and my EErs are one of my favorites for freindliness!

Chicken Math is why my coop is getting built for twelve and not six.

Have 4 Ee myself:) lov the breed its always a surprise to see how they feather out and then who lays what color of egg.congrats on your cute chicks- and watch out for that darn chicken math- i started with 15 and in a months time jumped to 27 :0

I got my first EEr from a co-op last April and "Mocha" is the sweetest thing! typical chipmunk markings....then my 2nd EE'r last June from MPC and again a chipmunk darling! (Dora)
Last month, I went in for my 3 pre selected pullets from a local Co-op who orders from Welp hatchery and ended up adding another EE'r! LOL-and once again she is turning into the typical chipmunk EEr snuggly lil thing.
However, this time "Ursula" is crazy with the chest bumping, and biting at fingers etc...THEN she snuggles down to snuggle. Love these personalities. (First two both lay the blue-green eggs and hoping Ursula follows their path) I would really like to find one in a different color but since I only want sexed pullets and that means a hatchery not sure hatcheries ever have colors other than chipmunk?.

We are also using sand for our chicks and it's working great! Do you suppose the sand holds in any heat from our red light? I am thinking it will be the opposite in the summer, that the sand will remain cool inside the coop and shaded all day.
