Thanks for the support everyone! It really is emotionally trying the first time around, but it's totally worth it. We're going to BBQ the bird tonight

This nurse (and wanna be farmer as well) is also glad to see posts like this - my 25 meaties arrive tomorrow and I am pretty excited to start this whole process.

I posted on your website too but just wanted to let you know that you give me hope that one of these days I will be brave enough to try this myself!

That's awesome!! The more I read about first-timers getting it done, the more I want to be like you!! For now my son will do the deed (we don't even have any birds yet!! lol) I like to have things in order before beginning, so I had to let my son know he would be doing that part and I can do the rest...maybe!

You are inspirational!

Hey! I'm a SAHM now but I was a Med Lab Tech before. I have never processed yet and was wondering does wearing the latex gloves cut down on the smell on your hands? You did an awesome job!

There was no smell at all just doing one. But when we did the other 35 a week ago... the gloves helped my hands stay cleaner, but the odor stuck to my entire body, and we burned the clothes I was wearing (they were pretty much ready for that before they got blood all over them though). Even saying that though - it's so worth it! Our freezer is stocked for the whole year, and it's all healthy and humanely raised & slaughtered!
