My first time incubating!

I'm starting this just to chronicle my first hatch. I just set the eggs in the bator tonight. I have a farm innovators incubator with still air fan and automatic egg turner. I set 38 Copper Marans eggs, 2 olive egger/copper marans cross, and 2 ee/copper marans cross eggs. I'm really hoping for good results!!

Marans are hard to see inside. I had one egg I didn't even know it was fertile until it hatched. Just don't expect to candle. if you can, set the ones you can see into aside and use them to determine how well your eggs are doing. have a great hatch!

x2! I am almost in the exact same position as you right now. I have 36 BCM eggs and the rest are silkies and Polish. I can kind of see inside some of the BCM eggs and know something is happening but just cant see a lot. I am using the Polish and Silkies to make sure that my humidity is where I want it. The eggs that you have that are crosses, are those shells any lighter? If not then you can continue to try to see inside to check for growth, but I would not hold out hope on seeing veins or air cells. Just keep them in the bator unless they smell or ooze.

Actually from what I've read, the crossed eggs I put in should be hard to see through too. The blue eggs coloring goes all the way through the shell instead of sitting on top like the marans so that makes it difficult also. And from what I read on the green egg, it may be even harder that the marans shell to see. It's a mix of the blue all the way through and the marans brown on the surface that makes the egg appear green. That's what I've read, so I guess I will see when it come time to try and candle them.

I never thought to put in easier eggs to candle to use as a baseline...
I guess thats what I get for only thinking about a colorful basket

Actually a colorful basket is exactly what drives my hatches! My husband only really cares that we get eggs. So beyond that I get to do all of the choosing. The only color I do not have yet is black... I would love to get one though. Just not sure if I could get my family to eat them LOL! I do have a second coop that I call the Diva Coop... It is full of my Polish Chickens and Silkies. They are not the best layers but they are so darn cute and they usually run up to greet me like none of my other breeds. I can pick them up and cuddle them and I actually think they enjoy it!!!
