My First Time Raising Chickens

Hi Steve! Welcome to BYC! And best of luck with your new chicks!

My best advice has to do with the coop. Build bigger and stronger than you think you need, because you will need it. :D There is so much to learn and you can learn it all right here, so happy exploring!
Thank you! Oh, I already wish I went bigger on the coop. Haha! It will be strong and mostly fortified from predators, though... hopefully ;)

:welcome Welcome to the BYC forums!

I really hope to hear more from you as you build your homestead. As much as I like to talk about chickens, I probably spend more time here on off topics such as gardening, etc... I think it would be great for you to post pictures and start threads on your homestead as you build up.

I know you will probably have enough questions about raising chickens for the first time, but please feel free to post threads on other topics related to your homestead as well. I love watching homesteading YouTube videos. Chickens on the homestead just seems a natural first step.
Many thanks!! I love talking about gardening and homesteading, too. It would be fun to post some pics I have about our little homestead. Is it common for members to post topics about their own projects, and not directly related to chickens?

Well, after 4 coops in 4 years my (hopefully) final one is an 8x10 walk in with a 10x12 secure run. They have a 4000SF free roaming area that is well protected from predators during the day. This has been such a learning experience for me, that I am always telling everyone to think really big on their first coop. 😁
