My first time with a broody - ugh!

I have my first broody too.. and I have 29 eggs in the incubator!! boy she is one big meany... hisses and growls at any one who comes near... puffs herself all up...but she does leave the nest.. so I collected the eggs this morning.. when I got home from work she was back on the nest again... I think I may let her hatch out her own eggs, let nature take its own course....whats a few more babies

I have my first too right now. I take her off her nest and put her near the food and water twice a day, and she eats and drinks some and then goes right back (to the now empty nest since I collected the eggs). It's an instinct created by a hormonal cascade and I am just going to wait for it to stop.

I can't wait for nature to take its course. These girls won't get out of the favorite nest boxes and when 3 or 4 large girls get in a nest box together there are inevitably broken eggs... I keep pulling broodies out of the nest box with nasty broken egg all over their chests and whole eggs stuck to the feathers. Darn girls!
