    That was... interesting.

At about 11:30 tonight I was sitting here listening to the rain, thunder, etc., when all of a sudden I hear the wind pick up, and a very strange, rhythmic "whoom-whoom-whoom-whoom-whoom" sound, getting louder and faster.

I run to the front door and open the inside door, and try to open the glass door, but it was pinned shut by the wind. Up the street, and across the way, I see a swirling tower of rain and clouds, about the width of two cars end-to-end, spinning around like a waterspout.

So I'm standing there considering dropping a load in my Victoria's Secrets as this thing comes dancing across the street at me. Next thing, the door is blasted by a solid sheet of water, and I can't see anything, but that whoom-whoom sound now starts whistling like a teakettle.

Then it all fades, and I hear the whoom-whoom-whoom fading into the backyard.

I called it in to 911. At the time I didn't think it had been big enough to do much damage, but I just came from up the street, and there is a huge old oak down.

Thank heavens I tucked the chickens into the henhouse and shut them in tonight!

LisaJean, I'm glad you are ok. We did not have a tornado but it got kinda hairy here last night.

Yeah, it was an interesting experience. The tree that came down landed on someone's parked car, plus demolised their mailbox, but thank heavens it didn't hit their house. I don't think the weather folk ever did officially say that it was a tornado, but I saw it. Being so late at night, they probably didn't have any other eye witnesses to confirm.

Being near that much natural power is one of the most exciting events of your life.

Nothing quite compares. It took years for the urge to go chaising storms to fade. I still get a little amped when I see the news reports.

I'm not allowed to watch the Discovery channel on weather week. [IMG]
