MP you posted earlier that red is not a standardized color and the reds across the pond are a deep mahogany. question 1. is red rare? Q2 the shade across pond come from working on that shade or that is just what came out of the gene pool?

Reds in the Uk were developed long long ago. You would have to research their standards. I have a book but it is too much to type. LOL

Red is not a color that is recognized as a standard by the Amerian Poultry Association.

Hey knew to this but it looks like you are trying to create Red Orpington chickens. I can tell you from somone who has already done this that crossing him to buff will only give you buff with orange cast. I have about 4 red hens left whith pink skin and white legs. All have a little black in tails only and one has a turkey neck. Gave away several roosters last year tht matched this description. All are large with puffy butts. If you need some help let me know. this took several generations.

I am breeding for slate legs, flaming red color. I think the contrast of his legs to his color is nicer than white legs. He is from a blue line so slate it is. LOL
