My Flock (& breed guessing game)

Thank you Henny. I loved them both, but Smidge was special, as he was my first chick to hatch. He was so friendly and would perch on my lap. I still tear up when Smudge crows, because Smidge would crow just after, and now I'll never get to hear him again (other than the video I took).

I understand. It would be hard losing "the first".

Got a good start on the netting today, we received it yesterday evening.

Looks like Pearl is definitely a Leghorn, not a White Rock. So now to decide whether she's a Pearl or White LH. I guess the Pearl lays brown eggs and the White white eggs.

Well, I was wrong. The Pearl LH seems to just be a name for McMurray's WLH's. Looks like they still lay white eggs. She was part of the brown egg layer assortment, haha!

Got 2/3 of the pen completed. Part of the last third is done, but it's the most work as well.

Got the chicken pen all but finished today, but it's completely covered so the chickens can be out without supervision! Only have the space over the large gate to finish, it's just temporarily covered at the moment.

Also good news, Trouble (who had a stroke this summer) and Cotton (who hurt her leg early fall) seem to be back in the main flock again. They had been in the "infirmary" pen all the time except for a few minutes when I'd let them out while I was working in the chicken pen. I let them everyone out this morning while working and everyone got along so well I left them together. They are roosting in the house with everyone else tonight. That solves my problem of what to do with them this winter when it gets cold.

Now just to get the babies grown up, they're 7 1/2 weeks now. Little raised her last chicks til they were 10 1/2 weeks. I'd like if they were in the house with everyone else, to stay warmer, but Little fights with everyone. Tiny little broody witch.
