So... This adventure began in April. My flock is doing well and as I had been warned would happen..chicken math has struck.( 6 chicks to start..2 rooster given away..3 hens came home...and rescued an injured hen this weekend)
I still have two Buff Orps and Two Black Austrolorps as well as the 3 hens added when the two roosters were given away..1 Barred Rock..1 RIR and 1 golden lace Wyandotte. All have such personality...cracks me up... Cedar(Buff) is the leader..and is so so so sweet. We giggle every time they hall butt running across the yard....just make me laugh. This weekend we rescued a injured Splash Wyandotte...the owner has had a few strokes and was worried she would forget to care for her in the proper manner. Not sure how it will work out for her but we are taking good care of her. She may just end up being our special needs hen. Our flock is now free ranging in the yard...our dog has gotten used to them and does not even bother with them..so they are free to run and scratch about all day. I have the injured gal isolated in the hen house...food and water within reach...and she sits all day healing her injury. Fingers crossed.

No eggs yet... but the Buff and Aussie gals are all showing signs of it being any day.

Funny note.. we woke one am a few weeks back to the hens going bonkers with squawking and cackling...I thought we may have had our first egg...nope..nothing...has not happened since. BUT the next day I read we had had a minor earthquake that day...not far away... I checked the UGS site and WOW... about 20 min before the quake and ending just before the quake is when the ruckus was going on...hummmm...anyone else experience something like this?

This has been such an amazing adventure...treasure the experience I have had with my kids and my friends. I have decided I want to raise chickens when I retire...too funny!
