My four month old sat on nest, but no egg.

MY four month old Black Spanish turkey sat on one of the nest we have for the turkeys, but no egg. Was she "practicing" or what ? I think, not sure though, that four months is too young to lay eggs, right?

That's way too young for a turkey to lay. It may have just looked like a cozy spot to lay down.

As a rule turkeys are seasonal layers. This year's hatch would not be likely to lay until next spring. That said, if you wanted eggs sooner you might be able to trick them into starting sooner if you put them inside under lights in the late fall.

Lu- at 4 months she is to young to lay, around 6 to 8 months depending in the size, the smaller varieties mature sooner than the heavy ones. You may get some eggs this fall but that's iffy.


Ours lay in the spring and the fall, the spring lay being much longer and more eggs. The fall lay is shorter.
