This is the coop I am assembling from stuff I have lying around. I took an old Eskimo Pie ice cream machine cover and a food service cart (both bought at gov auction for $3) and old roofing tin and lumber and built this. It is by no means complete but close enough so you can see what I'm going for.

The coop breaks into 2 halves, both with wheels, so it can be moved easily by one person and easily cleaned. It measures 4ft long, 6ft wide and 4ft tall. The green metal side opens for access to the nesting boxes (not yet installed) and the ice cream side has 2 access doors. Both halves clamp together with quick release c-clamps. I used an old, corrugated plastic political sign as decking under the roofing tin to ensure no leaks.

I'll need to paint a bit and tweak a few weak areas (and insulate better come winter) but it looks like it's actually going to work. And it cost me nothing.

Just in case, a friend is selling me a real tractor coop and run for $100 (A-frame built for 6 hens.) The city he is in has banned backyard chickens so he is selling it to me cheap. Still this has been fun and may allow me to get a few more chicks.

You and my DH would get along great! He can build most anything out of anything!! Thus is why I have a white trash ghetto coop as well but I love it!!

You remind me of my neighbor-turn him loose in the woods with a q-tip and come back later and he will have built a shopping mall!
