My Garden - PIC heavy - 1st harvest - Post 38

I planted fennel and dill this year for the first time. Read the same thing so I put my fennel on one side of the garden and the dill on the complete opposite. Dill is slow to come up for me but the fennel is going crazy.

What I have growing this year...
Just pulled up the last of the spinach. Planted early Fall last year and we had fresh spinach from Fall thru Spring - my DH's fav.
Swiss chard - giant green and red
radishes - an heirloom mix - just put in my second sowing of these
Walla Walla sweet onions - planted 3 rows last Fall and these we can pull this June. Planted 3 more rows early this Spring and will be able to pull these later this Summer
Potatoes - yukon gold and red potatoes
Beets - another heirloom mix from seed - can't wait for these
Peppers - anaheim, jalapeno, sweet pickle and thai hots (love my hot peppers)
Japanese eggplant - grilled on the bbq w/ olive oil, balsamic and sea salt they are to die for!
Carrots
Japanese cucumber
Tomatoes - early girl, sweet grape and my fav brandywine
Lettuce mixes
And the ever present Arugula - once you plant this it never goes way which is just fine for me as I love it
Herbs; chives, rosemary, bay leaf, parsley (I do successive plantings of parsely all year - I use it a lot in my cooking), tarragon, oregano, marjoram, thyme, mint

wow - I'm rambling - happens when I talk about my garden or my chickens!

Sounds like my kind of garden. Nice to know about the arugula, I have a bed of that too. I'm still learning and thought I would see what does well and what doesn't in our hot, humid climate. I'm having to water twice a day.

I plan on putting in soaker hoses but I truly enjoy watering. Something about standing there in the quiet, with the gate closed and all the animals on the other side, just me and the garden. I love to watch the mist of water fall on the plants and to pull a weed here and there or pick a pea or bean and eat it right there. It's the only alone time I get around here. Once I step on the other side of that gate there are six dogs and hundreds of chickens, ducks, peacocks and other animals needing or wanting my time and attention. When I'm feeling really stressed - I go to my garden and close the gate and leave it all on the other side. Most of the time it's still there waiting for me when I come out, but at least I come out in better spirits than I went in.
