Just thought this was funny. My geese are always finding something to get into and play with. Usually it's just climbing on something or pulling sticks out of the wood pile or untying the hay bales. Yesterday, however, I went out to give my chickens scratch and I use a old butter tub for a scoop, so I took out the butter tub full of scratch and was tossing it around the chicken yard. Well my gander thinks he has to eat out of the bowl every time I feed them instead of waiting for me to put the food in the trough so I let him have his nibble and then finished tossing the rest around. And then my goose came up to me and tapped on the butter tub like she wanted some too, so I tipped it over to show her it was empty and she grabbed it, pulled it out of my hand, started honking as loud as she could and ran off across the yard. So my gander followed her yelling as well and then our duck joined in.

They ran around the yard throwing that butter tub and stealing it from one another for over an hour talking the whole time. We had so much fun just sitting and watching them.

Oh, I love it! My geese love to play with things, too. Guess that's normal for geese. Duck bill everything, but geese actually PLAY with stuff. Mine have found various things to play with in the yard. The gander finds The Perfect Stick to put into the kiddie pool and push around.

Right now, my goose Kate - neither the gander or goose are mature yet - has discovered the Cayuga ducklings and is trying to Big Sister them. It's really cute. Angus watches intently, but does not interfere (nor assist, at this point).

the geese are really busy and hilarious...very curious about everything...they have dismantled all of my solar night lights, taken dime sized bits of insulation off all the water pipes...they don't eat it, just remove it one bite at a time...they have taken down all the cds they can reach...they are soooo busy...I put new bedding in the barrels in the yard I use for nesting...they pulled it all out and examined it...I have put it back in the barrels a half dozen times and now they have decided it is okay for it to be there...busy bodies...every one of them...

erinszoo-- That's hilarious! Thanks for sharing!

That is so funny. I have to find something for my geese to play with. They enjoy taking apart my seat cushion on my chair. They enjoy pulling the string to my siller along with anything else on it they can nibble on. I even hung a dog leash on a fence so they had something to lay with. I will have to try the butter tub.

Today, just to add to the chaos, my gander climbed on top of the vent to the cellar and proceeded to unstack the kindling, ... one piece at a time ... and then throw it as far as he could in the air. What a mess! But my oh my did he have a good time doing it.

My grandson was playing with some wiffle balls one day and the geese grabbed a couple and started to play with them. So I gave them about 20 of all colors. They push them around with their beak, pick them up and run, toss them, its fun to watch.

OMG, what kind of geese do you have??? Mine just go around checking on everything. They folllow the chickens then they will follow the ducks..... sleep..... groom....... sleep.... play in the water..... stuff like that. They are sure happy to see me though. You'd think they hadn't seen me in a few days. Cracks me up everytime.
