My girl Hannah. (Heat can be such a bugger!) And my attempt to beat the heat.

Just wanted to update here:

We had hurricane Arthur come through and while it caused a huge mess, it cooled things down for about 2 days.

I am happy to report since my last post, things have returned to normal. Hannah has gained 3/4 of a pound over the last few days. She has laid 2 consecutive eggs that are hard shelled and normal.

Crazy how heat can cause such an uproar, especially for us chicken parents!

I still plan on worming on the 14th for the follow up worming. I am just glad that she has her appetite back and acting normal. =)

As can be seen: no panting going on! Yays!

Had another cool day yesterday, but the heat is back up today. Being proactive in keeping on top of this, this time. Filled water bottles, froze them and have them under the deck where the girls hang out in the day time. Also have a shallow container filled with bricks with a couple inches of water in it so that they can stand on it and keep cool. Also keeping on top of waterers. Making sure every 4 hours or so changing it out for cold water.

Have put out some frozen shredded zucchini that I had frozen last fall as a cool treat. And, it being so warm right now, I even went so far as to give the hens a spray with the hose. I was surprised to see that they at first weren't happy, but as they cooled down, they seemed to relish in the light spraying of water. Who knew!
