Can anyone help me?
1) What type of bird , age and weight.
She is a LF Polish and bantam Sultan cross. She'll be 2 years old on May 8th, so almost two.
2) What is the behavior, exactly.
She has been refusing to stray too far from the coop for almost 4 days. She only wants to roost, so I let her be, because sometimes she just likes to stay inside longer, and comes out later. But when she wasn't interested in eating, I knew something was wrong. She drinks ALOT and stands by the water bucket. Her abdomen feels very swollen. She's quiet and doesn't move very much, or quickly. (She has a history of laying soft shelled eggs/eggs without a shell, and typically acting sickly before and after these occurances.)
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms?
These symptoms began around 4 days ago. I'm usually at school during the day so I honestly don't have a good concept of time in this case.
4) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.
No injuries. Just abdomenal swelling.
5) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.
Can't think of any.
6) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.
She hasn't eaten anything for a day. A few days ago she munched at some leaves I brought for her inside the coop. But now, nothing. She's drinking very much, though.
7) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.
Droppings are white and green, very gooey and sticky.
8) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?
So far, I have only tried gaterade (tiny bit) in her water in an effort to get her more lively. Besides the swelling, these sound like symptoms exhibited from a few of my hens, that occur every once in a while. Hens gets a little sickly, pull themselves back together later. I didn't have a clue this would get so bad.
9 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?
We have vurtually no vets in our area (and my parents wouldn't even remotely entertain the idea of bringing her to one), so I intend to work on her myself. Seeing as this is not my area of great knowledge, and I don't have a poultry medical cabinet, I'm really short on supplies that could help her.
10) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.
No picture, but as for external description: she's hunched and very 'round', breathing a tiny bit heavier than normal, her tail is down, but she seems reluctant to lie down during the day, only to stand near her water.
11) Describe the housing/bedding in use
We use straw and hay. Always have. Never had a problem.
***She has been outside the coop yesterday, and I intend to keeping her separated until she is feeling better.
