Can anyone help me?

1) What type of bird , age and weight.
She is a LF Polish and bantam Sultan cross. She'll be 2 years old on May 8th, so almost two.

2) What is the behavior, exactly.
She has been refusing to stray too far from the coop for almost 4 days. She only wants to roost, so I let her be, because sometimes she just likes to stay inside longer, and comes out later. But when she wasn't interested in eating, I knew something was wrong. She drinks ALOT and stands by the water bucket. Her abdomen feels very swollen. She's quiet and doesn't move very much, or quickly. (She has a history of laying soft shelled eggs/eggs without a shell, and typically acting sickly before and after these occurances.)

3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms?
These symptoms began around 4 days ago. I'm usually at school during the day so I honestly don't have a good concept of time in this case.

4) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.
No injuries. Just abdomenal swelling.

5) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.
Can't think of any.

6) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.
She hasn't eaten anything for a day. A few days ago she munched at some leaves I brought for her inside the coop. But now, nothing. She's drinking very much, though.

7) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.
Droppings are white and green, very gooey and sticky.

8) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?
So far, I have only tried gaterade (tiny bit) in her water in an effort to get her more lively. Besides the swelling, these sound like symptoms exhibited from a few of my hens, that occur every once in a while. Hens gets a little sickly, pull themselves back together later. I didn't have a clue this would get so bad.

9 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?
We have vurtually no vets in our area (and my parents wouldn't even remotely entertain the idea of bringing her to one), so I intend to work on her myself. Seeing as this is not my area of great knowledge, and I don't have a poultry medical cabinet, I'm really short on supplies that could help her.

10) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.
No picture, but as for external description: she's hunched and very 'round', breathing a tiny bit heavier than normal, her tail is down, but she seems reluctant to lie down during the day, only to stand near her water.

11) Describe the housing/bedding in use
We use straw and hay. Always have. Never had a problem.

***She has been outside the coop yesterday, and I intend to keeping her separated until she is feeling better.

Sounds like she may be an internal layer. You can do a search here for Egg Peritonitis. She could also be egg bound, but I think that internal layer is more like it. We had a hen with that problem. She was off her feed, swollen/hard belly and just overall not good.

Good luck!

If her abdomen is squishy like a water balloon she could also have ascites. You can puncture her belly with a sterile large gauge needle and let out the fluid.. A whole bunch comes out so be prepared with lots of towels. It is not nasty at all, just clear and odorless. Good luck! Terri O

Ascites is a symptom - fluid build up in the abdomen, typically due to underlying causes. If she is soft and bloated, she could have an infection going on in there. Maybe from a broken egg or other diseases can cause this as well. If it is hard, she is an internal layer.

Her stomach feels harder than a water balloon. Right now, she's standing in a dog crate in the basement. This morning, I treated for egg binding to at least say I tried something. I put her over steamy water and she became a bit more relaxed, but after a half our or so, she tried to walk away (she's weak so it was more of an attempt than anything else). It's raining all day so she's spending it in the basement.

I put 1/2 of a crushed Tums chewable in her water but she honestly loathes it. I'm going to take it out because I can't tell if she's just not interested in the Tums water, or water period. I held a few layer pellets in my hand and she played with them for a second then dropped them. Now she's just not doing anything.

I'm going to be out of the house for much of the day. Right now, I can't do anything for her that takes alot of concentration. This is honestly the worst week out of this whole year she could have gotten ill. What should I be doing for her?
