I second this. Ever since I did this, no more softshell eggs. You're welcome. You have oyster shell out there constantly available in a separate vessel, right?

I've always had OS for my hens. But I got softshells for a couple of weeks until I discovered a snake in the hen house! Once I got rid of the snake AND its mate, no more jelly eggs. Apparently (I deduced), stress can cause the problem.I second this. Ever since I did this, no more softshell eggs.

Well hopefully that will take care of your snake problem for a while. Better put some more wooden ones out for its mate. Or ceramic ones. Boy, I do not envy him his belly ache!Hahaha sorry to add that to your plate! I just had a large rat snake in my coop and he got greedy.. ate all my eggs plus a wooden fake one!
