My girls are feeling a little cooped up...lol...hanging cabbage didnt work

Well my girls have made it through yet another round of below 20 degrees...I know not that cold in comparison to elsewhere and yet another 5 inches of snow.

We had some melting before the snow and my crazy ladies went into the neighbors yard who I think really does not like me. See post https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/847037/should-i-follow-thru-with-animal-control-complaint because I filed a formal complaint with animal control...$50 fine that he is going to contest....ugggg!

My husband is a non-confrontational type so he is not happy but I'm so over his dog in my yard, and yes I now realize that keeping my girls on my property is crucial to their survival.

Anyhoo...girls keep going over into his yard...double uggg...the only thing that kept them in our yard (can't finish run until ground thaws) was to give them bird seed. Hoping this is ok...didn't even look it up just coaxed them over with an old egg and then threw the seed on the ground.

I'm thinking that since they eat the rotting wood on the side of our shed and the rubber off of my door mats they'll survive.

Thanks for all the tips....we need our run finished and some warm weather for the remainder of my flock.

We still have one BO, one barred rock and one NHR. The BO that was killed was my favorite, so sweet compared to the one we still have.

When spring hits I want a cold/heat tolerant sweet, sweet girl like my BO Hazel that was killed....still missing her. Any suggestions? Heard BO's are one of the sweetest but our girl Basil does not fit the description???

Nothing fancy just a love bug!

I am told silky's are the cuddliest but my experience leans towards the cochins...not that mine are for cuddling. ;)

Brahmas and Cochins are by far my favorite and most personable of my birds. Although I have had one blue Andalusian that is just the most interesting bird, and a white faced black Spanish hen who was just delightfully friendly. She would fly across the coop to you, and sit by you. But we lost her before she even started laying. It really depends on the chicken, but as far as breeds I would say Brahmas and Cochins are fairly inclined if raised by hand to enjoy humans. I have five DBs that are friendly despite not having lots of hands on human time.
