My girls are gone....

I came home from work today and my neighbor stopped me in the driveway. He said a couple of stray dogs were running around and they jumped his fence but after turning them loose they jumped into our backyard. He told me to check on my hens. What I saw next was pure terror. The dogs TORE the side off the run, ripped the bottom off of the coop and killed all four of my girls. Didn't drag them off, just killed them. They were all huddled together. I am heartbroken that I wasn't home to defend my girls and that they died in pain. I have sobbed all evening. I raised them all from days old. To make matters worse, when animal control arrived the officer didn't even offer to look at what happened or dispose of them. He told me to throw them in the trash and he'll "keep an eye out" for the dogs. So I had to put my girls in a trash bag like common garbage. The only comfort I took was I was the first hands that held them and I was the last. I know if anyone could understand what I'm feeling, it is this community.

I am so sorry. I have lost many girls that I love like my own children. It hurts, a lot. I hate it when they come to a violent death. I cry with you for the loss of your girls.

I'm so sorry. I know how bad it hurts and how unfair it is to lose beloved animals to strays or even neighborhood pets. I lost my 5 year old hen to an opossum last week and I'm still hurting. Hope they find the dogs.

That must of been really hard... So sorry! ((Hugs)).

I remember loosing my first chickens to a stinking raccoon that wanted a meal. I still get mad when thinking about it.

Hope you can get those dogs taken care of... There dangerous to other animals. If not people also.

I once had a neighbor that let his pit/chow mix w/her pups run. They were after my chickens and horses I first tried talking to the jerk politely..after they came again and growed at me when I tried to chase them off, i called animal control(worthless asses). I called them about 3x. I finally went to the station and told them if my lityle girl or i got attacked I would sue them for liable..it worked...but man did it cause a stink..list birds..and a neighbor that hated me. I finally ended up fencing in my property and getting two Rottweiler to protect my property.
