one of my hens the last couple of nights has been using the nesting box for sleeping, I am thinking that it is because it is more sheltered and it is warmer as it is full of wood chips.
Maybe she is broody?

maybe something simple like cardboard?
well maybe. she is only in the nest box at night though, in the day she is ranging around with the rest of them. If they are broody don't they just want to stay in there all the time? I haven't had one do that yet, but I've only had chickens since MayMaybe she is broody

good idea, I think I have a piece of plywood about the right sizeAh, seems like she has just picked up a bad habit since she is out and about during the day. As SusanD and others have said on this thread - block the nesting boxes off after they have laid and all night.
