my girls need calcium ...

Can a chicken's digestive system assimilate the calcium from "ground-up" eggshells? Like Calcium Carbonate?

If not, then how is it that they can assimilate "Oyster shell"?

And, on the same line of thought......

Does DE (Diatomaceous Earth) provide Calcium if mixed into the feed?

people wanna know (well, at least one people)

When I was doing wild bird rehab, our wildlife vet told us that eggshells should be cooked at least 30-40 minutes for the calcium to be *usable* for the birds; that raw eggshell did not allow the calcium to be absorbed.

FWIW...
