My Girls Started Laying But?

But the eggs are very small,I am sure its since its their first eggs,Out of 12 hens all the same age only 2 are laying.Wonder why that is? Barred Rock and sex link hens are what I have.Larry

Hi Larry!

The eggs do start off smaller at first, but once your hens get going, the size will increase. We call those pullet eggs. Now, I'm betting the Red pullets are the ones laying for you now. The Barred Rocks will take a bit longer. Even a month longer to get started, I think because they're a larger breed and take longer to mature.

It's OK for a few to start laying, and then you'll see more and more eggs real soon! So exciting! Congrats and take care,
