hi everyone i bought a goat and a buckling and a doeling 3 days ago and the first daywe seperated the babys for the whole day and kept them together in the night and that evening we milked it no problem and i could touch it.but after that we put them together and i tried touching and it tried to bite me and the next day i tried again and the same thing and it is still going on, i was just why it is suddenly doing it and how i can fix it.
Thank you
bill

I have never had a goat try to bite me, so I can't be of much help. I did have one who would bite her pen mates, but she never tried to bite me. If this is an adult goat I would whack it across the nose whenever it tried to bite me. Somebody else may have a more constructive suggestion.

I have never run to the problem either but my guess is maybe when she with her children she’s being protective since your kinda new to her. I had one mother goat that was EXTREMELY protective of her children. Is she trying to bite you when you go near her children?

Probably figuring out why for it to be fixed. Maybe when she’s with them try to let her come to you first more on her terms might make her more comfortable and maybe help determine whether she’s being protective or aggressive

no she is not trying to bite me when i go near her children.she will take treats from my hand but just doesnt really like it when we pet her

Hmm. That is strange. I know my goat warms up to a person after a treat , well 2 of them like everyone and doesn’t sound like protective. I’m gonna ask my buddy with goats that gives me advice about mine after he gets off work later this evening ... he’s been raising them for years Where did you get your goats and what breed?

That info might help Goats are weird, stubborn and butt headed creatures sometimes so it can be hard. But I love them because they can have so much personality over time! I ask so many questions cause sometimes you just have to let them know who’s in charge and it’s hard when they are new and your trying to work on that bond. So trying to figure out breed and background to help deal. My “teenage “ male goat is having to be reminded who’s in charge. A stern pop on the nose and a stern NO have worked so far We’re working on that

Silly question... is a bite or a nibble of the fingers? Mine like to nibble my fingers sometimes if I hold my hand out or something

Sorry. I feel stupid. I think I mis read your post. She’s biting you when you go near her children. Seems more normal.. again breed helps but mine became very protective. We could touch the babies but probably only cause we’d owned her awhile. She’s probably being protective because she’s still getting to know you and maybe out of sorts in new location also. I’m still gonna ask my buddy cause he’s probably run into similar situation
