my god this is killing me

What Rancher Hicks said, yes.

Do not be discouraged, and I think it wonderful that you care whether the animals are ok or not.

Do your best, and it will be ok. Chickens are very forgiving.

Don't be discouraged.. things have a way of working out for the best. Maybe you could offer to wash your dad's car for him? Hang in there.

okay...I get it and I apologize as well...my youngest was dislexic and I know I spelled that wrong! He has done well and you can too...keep at it and don't let old cranks like me discourage you...

Why is Mypetchicken sending them anywhere else except for your house? If you really want females and MPC can get them for you then I'd go that way, BUT, I'd have them mail them to your home or a friend's house if you can't go get them when they arrive.

Something nice could be a snack or lunch if your dad is busy working on something. Maybe time spent with him - a movie at home with some popcorn you have made. Maybe a "chore" - something he has been meaning to do but you might be able to do or help with (weeding, taking out the trash - these are just examples and might not be things he does - so you might have your mom help you think of something).

Helping him with something may not be the way you want to spend your time, but getting chickens - or a coop - might not be the way he wanted to spend his time either (but he does it cause he loves you).

Ya know folks it took me a long time to stop picking on spelling and grammar and all that cuz I'm a picky person. Now I just let it go. Lord knows I did well in English but typing is another matter. I get tired of backspacing and retyping their/there and whatever. Just over look the mistakes from now on. Make that your motto. You want to tell everyone here your faults? I sure don't. Dyslexic myslexic who cares, I don't and Lord knows I can be a pain. You put up with me and I'll put up with you and neither of us will feel bad. 'K?

OP carry on.

Love ya no matter what

Amen to those that stood up for VioletandBodie! She was one of the few people who even bothered to respond to my need for help and she tried her best! I will back a person, any person, who at least makes an attempt and is nice. Keep posting honey! I'm behind ya.

Sweetpea, just think-- in a few weeks this will all be over and you'll be enjoying your new chickies! It will all be worth it! Also, keep in mind Craig's List...we found lots of local folks selling chickens through Craig's list and through our local farmer's bulletin, which made me really happy because I'm an instant gratification kinda girl! Good luck with them!

PS - Honestly, my husband and I both get the biggest kick out of the smiles and happiness on our girls' faces when we do something for them -- even if that something was a pain

. Do something nice for your Dad if you can, but mostly be sure to continue to show your appreciation for all he does for you and love him back!

Violet, The chicks should be fine for upto 3 days after they hatch. The best thing to do is make sure you have water for them when you take them out of the box. I take each one out 1 at a time. I will hold them and dip their beak into the water. I dip it wait a second, then do it again and set them down beside the water. Then get another chick and repeat. I will continue to do this with all of the chicks I get. You can also get a package of grow gel. It is a light brown powder but turns bright green/blue when you add the water. It is full of vitamins and nutrients they need. It will help them to get a super healthy start! It's only like $4 from most feed stores or hatchery's. You can also add about 1 table spoon of sugar per quart of water. Do this for the first 2-3 days and change it daily! The sugar water can go bad just like sweet tea in the sun! Chicks are actually pretty tough! But the mail can be a pretty tough trip too. Yes, ALL roosters crow! If you can get the sexed chicks this is the best way to go. I get mine from Ideal hatchery in Texas. I have had great luck with them!
