My goose cannot stand up

Not only that, he’s not eating and barely drinking. What do you think he has?
ive been giving him drinks of water wit an eye dropper and feeding him nutritional yeast ever couple of hours. He’s been this way for 2 days, getting worse each day. I hate to lose him. He was born on June 1st.

@Mareve It’s hard to say because geese act like this for just about every illness.

If you can get poultry nutri-drench and durvet b vitamin complex give him it for a few days, it can give him a boost of energy and nutrients to give his body the extra boost it needs while he’s sick or possibly correct the problem.
Sometimes geese are deficient in niacin even when getting nutritional yeast and niacin isn’t the only b vitamin they need, other nutrient deficiencies can have a similar effect.

You can also mix his food in water to make a soupy mash, geese are more willing to want to eat like that.

What kind of feed does he normally eat?
What do his droppings look like and could you post a picture?
Does he have any other unusual symptoms? Like coughing, wheezing, flinging spit everywhere, acting drunk when he walks or anything else?
Could he have swallowed something unusual?

Dripping water/nutritional yeast and poultry grain combo into his mouth. His poops are Minimal, green/white not formed but not diarrhea either.

Is a vet an option? This sounds serious, many times geese hide their symptoms until it’s to much for them to cope with.

My vet doesn’t really have a clue?
I think I’ll call Cornell vet school tomorrow

It could be a lot of things, but sudden lameness in waterfowl, inability to eat or drink are both symptoms of botulism. Do you live in a hot place right now? What kind of water are they using to bath and drink? I work at a rehab center and in the summers we get SO many ducks and geese in with botulism. Especially after heavy rains, it stirs up the rotting vegetation and sediment from the bottom and makes them sick

I hope it turns out okay. It wouldn’t hurt to administer toxiban for potential poisoning (via feeding tube) and subcutaneously give fluids for a boost.

I’ll look up botulism
So in that case it’s probably not a good idea to let them wander around the property as we have a farm and many places stagnant water can accumulate
If he is still with us tomorrow I’ll take him to the vet for the toxiban. Will it work on day 5 of being down?

If it’s actually botulism it’s going to be a pretty severe case 5 days in. But they’re hardy birds. I’ve seen some come back from looking down right deathly. Hopefully your vet can diagnose whatever is going on and get to work fast

Stagnant water with rotting vegetation and feces, in hot temperatures is ideal botulism territory, i would be very careful letting them roam around these areas

had a duck die that way. Very sad. Its really important to make sure waterfowl have clean water. They will stick their little heads in every pail or container to get even the dirtiest water. Its so weird. Im always chasing my geese off of areas they shouldn't be. Very nosy creatures but I just adore them! I really hope yours pulls through!!
