My goose is setting

I noticed my goose came off for a few minutes today. I'm putting lettuce in her nest to and a pan of water beside the door. I just don't know why the gander won't stay with her.

Bonnie came out tonight while we were feeding everyone...I usually let them out of their pen to run in the yard while we feed the alpacas, then they go back in their pen. Clyde likes to charge at the little boys that are in the girls' pen, lol. It's so funny.

Anyway, Bonnie came out for about 5 or so minutes. I'm glad I read the entries to this thread earlier today, because her feet and legs were a very pale pink...and she normally has very bright orange feet/legs. By the time she went back in, they were almost normal...whew!! She got right back on her nest and was chattering to her eggs :)

Clyde does stay pretty much with her all the time, esp when she is out and about. :)

PS I am still so excited, lol!!

My son relayed that he saw the broody geese off of their nests this morning, so I'm hopeful that I won't have to drag poor Minnow off of her nest any more, and maybe she'll be taking better care of herself. Those feet are scary! The flu came to visit, or I would have checked everyone out today -- hopefully I'll be well enough to get out there tomorrow and check on everyone . . . maybe we'll have goslings by Easter!

On the other hand, I'm ready to be done with grumpy ganders. It gets old having to teach the same lesson every day. Wonder how awful goslings will make him behave . . . I can't imagine!

Trust me on this, ganders are super protective dads. It's really not 'awful' - just how they go about insuring that their DNA will carry on through their goslings.

Many years ago this redneck boy met and fell in love with a city girl. Never let her meet my eccentric family until we were engaged - think that Sourland is strange? Ya should meet the rest. Anyway, brought her home to meet the family - human and animal. She was somewhat fearful of my beagles so to help with the introduction, I snatched a gosling from Gus the goose and his mate. As I ran towards my 'wife to be' with Gus in hot pursuit, she decided that the beagles were a lesser evil and jumped into the pen with them. A protective gander helped the Princess meet the dogs. "Just sayin'."

Yes, she married me after such behavior. Love is blind.
